Pregnancy Problems

During pregnancy the mother's body undergoes a series of changes that adapt it for nourishing & protecting the growing baby ( Education Of Pregnancy )
Pregnancy begins with conception "the fertilization of an ovum by a sperm" & normally ends with childbirth. ( This article deals with the central character in pregnancy, the expectant mother ). However, since it is often impossible to determine exactly when conception has taken place, the beginning of pregnancy is usually taken as the first day of the pregnant woman's last menstrual period.
There are several things a woman can do to help ensure that she & her baby come through the period of pregnancy in good health. She can follow a regular program of prenatal care. She can select a well balanced diet tailored to the demands of pregnancy. And she can get plenty of exercise to strengthen her body.
  • Duration Of Pregnancy Pregnancy
Lasts an average of 266 days from the time of conception. Dated from the beginning of the last menstrual period, it lasts an average of 280 days or 9 months plus 9 days. The 280th day of pregnancy, the approximate date of delivery, is called the estimated date of confinement. Only about five percent of spontaneous deliveries actually take place on the estimated date of confinement, & only about sixty percent occur within five days of it. A baby is not regarded as premature unless it is born more than four weeks before estimated date of confinement, & healthy babies have been delivered as late as 110 days after estimated date of confinement. A simple shortcut for determining the date that the baby is due is to add seven days to the date when the woman's last menstrual period began and then count back three months.
  • Early and Late Pregnancies
